Image Compressor
Make a JPG, PNG or WebP image smaller. Lower the quality, switch to a more efficient format or limit the dimensions, and compare the real file size before and after.
Result
Choose an image and select Compress image. The result will appear here.
How to use
- Choose an image from your device or drag it into the upload area.
- Pick an output format. JPG and WebP have a quality slider. Around 70 to 80 suits most photos.
- Optionally set a maximum size for the longest side.
- Select Compress image, compare the sizes and download the result if it is smaller.
Supported formats and limits
- Input: JPG, PNG and WebP images up to 25 MB and 50 megapixels.
- Output: the same format, JPG or WebP. PNG is lossless, so it has no quality setting.
- Photos taken on phones are rotated correctly using their orientation data.
- Metadata such as camera details and location is not kept in the compressed file.
- Smaller images are never enlarged, so a maximum size that is larger than your image has no effect.
How the size is reduced
- JPG and WebP files get smaller when you lower the quality. Lower quality can show as softer detail, so check the preview.
- WebP is often smaller than JPG at similar quality, but some older programs cannot open WebP files.
- A smaller maximum size reduces the pixel count, which lowers the file size the most.
- If the result is not smaller than your original, no download is offered and the tool tells you.
- When the result is smaller, the page shows the new file size and the percentage saved.
Privacy
- Your image is processed in your browser. It is not uploaded to a server.
- No account is required.
Troubleshooting
- If the image does not open, make sure it is a valid JPG, PNG or WebP file.
- JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas become white when you convert a PNG or WebP to JPG.
- If a format is unavailable in your browser, choose a different output format.
