Compress PDF
Make a PDF smaller by recompressing the JPEG photos inside it. Text, fonts and layout stay exactly as they are, and you see the real file size before and after.
Result
Choose a PDF and select Compress PDF. The result will appear here.
How to use
- Choose a PDF file or drag it into the upload area.
- Pick a compression level. Light keeps the best quality, Strong gives the smallest file.
- Select Compress PDF and check the before and after size.
- Download the file if it is smaller. If it cannot be made smaller, the tool tells you instead.
What this tool does and does not do
- It recompresses JPEG images inside the PDF and can reduce very large images to a lower resolution.
- Text, fonts, links and layout are not changed, so text stays selectable.
- PDFs that contain only text, or whose images are already small, usually cannot be reduced much. In that case no download is offered.
- Images that are stored in other formats, such as scanned pages saved without JPEG, are left unchanged.
- Images with an embedded color profile may show very slight color differences.
Supported files and limits
- Input: one PDF file up to 50 MB.
- Password-protected PDFs are not supported. Remove the password first.
- An image is replaced only when the new version is smaller than the original.
Privacy
- Your file is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to a server.
- No account is required.
Troubleshooting
- If the size did not change, try the Strong level, or check the images recompressed count in the result.
- Check the compressed PDF in a viewer before you send it. Strong compression can make photos look softer.
- If a file is rejected as damaged, test it in a PDF viewer first.
